What is a Vector?

A Vector is an organism (mostly insects) that can carry and transmit a disease-causing pathogen from one animal/plant to another or causes direct harm and injury to humans or animals.

Examples: mosquitoes, Africanized honey bees, fleas, ticks, mites, lice, flies, rats, eye gnats, spiders, scorpions, rattlesnakes.

The AVMVCD currently only handles issues with mosquitoes and Africanized honey bees

What is a Special District?

Special districts are a form of local government created by a local community to meet a specific need. Inadequate tax bases and competing demands for existing taxes make it hard for cities and counties to provide all the services their citizens’ desire.  When residents and landowners want new services o higher levels of existing services, they can form a district to pay for and administer them. Independent special districts are sanctioned under California Law for the performance of local governmental functions within specified boundaries.
