Mosquito-borne diseases are among the world's leading causes of illness and death today.  


  • affect > 300 million people and cause ~ 4 million deaths each year (WHO)
  • mostly in tropical regions of the world such as Africa, Asia and South America
  • most devastating: malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, chikungunya
  • most common in the US: West Nile Virus (WNV)
