West Nile virus is endemic in the Antelope Valley and the Antelope Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District continues to urge residents to take precautions against mosquito bites! There is no vaccine or cure for West Nile virus, so the best prevention is mosquito bite prevention.

09/17/2025: The LA County Department of public health confirmed the first few cases of human West Nile virus in the Antelope Valley for 2025. View article HERE
9/08/2025: The District detected West Nile virus in a mosquito sample collected from 25th Street East and Avenue K in Lancaster.
8/29/2025: The District detected West Nile virus in a mosquito sample collected from 13th Street East and Avenue R in Palmdale.

7/20/2022: A Great Horned Owl found hear Avenue H and 30th Street East tested positive for West Nile virus. The owl was picked up by a veterinarian and is recovering at the Ojai Raptor Center.
6/14/2022: West Nile Virus was detected for the first time during the 2022 season near J-8 and 40th Street East
9/17/2021: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has identified the first case of human West Nile virus (WNV) infection in the Antelope Valley for the 2021 season.
10/06/2020: Two additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus: 3oth East and Avenue R and 25th West and Avnue P-8. One additional human case has also been reported.
09/28/2020: An additional mosquito sample collected near 27th Street East and Avenue J-8 has tested positive for West Nile virus.
9/18/2020: Four additional human cases of West Nile virus, and one positive bird have been reported in the Antelope Valley area.
9/15/2020: The first two human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in the Antelope Valley area.
9/8/2020: An additional mosquito sample collected near 30th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard tested positive for West Nile virus.
8/31/2020: Three additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus in Palmdale, CA near 6th Street East and Avenue R, 20th St East and Avenue S and 25th St. East and Avenue R-6
8/21/2020: Additonal mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus in Lancaster, CA near Avenue L-8 and 70th Street West,
8/17/2020: A third sample of mosquitoes has tested positive for West Nile virus in Lancaster, CA near Lancaster Boulevard and Division Street
8/10/2020: A second sample of mosquitoes has tested positive for West Nile virus in Palmdale, CA near 25th Street East and Avenue R-8.
7/30/2020: Based on mosquitoes tested from traps, West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes and birds near 15th Street West and Avenue K in Lancaster, California. This is the first West Nile virus detection within District boundaries for the 2020 mosquito season.
